Hummers are feisty little things from my observations. There used to be a feeder at the cottage, but no hummer wanted any other bird there.

Goldfinches are a permanent feature in our yard, but we haven't had a hummingbird visit so far this year.

We never got many goldfinches in our Chicago neighborhood and never hummingbirds. They are so tiny, but I didn't know they were also territorial.

We were never very successful attracting hummingbirds to the feeders we had at the VA house. However we did have a lot of goldfinches, cardinals, bluejays and house finches.
