Postcard from Syros Island

Our first island stop. Rough seas delayed our departure from Athens and itinerary had to be changed.

We had a wonderful walking tour at 9 am Sunday. We joined two other couples for lunch at a nice restaurant we found.

Many more photos once I return home.

We were told that wifi from Greece while we are on a ship may be spotty.  So if there have been no Postcards from Greece it's because of the wifi issue.

(Wrote this April 8th)

Flowers and Cats Postcard

Love this rock garden at Poseidon’s Temple.

Cats are everywhere.

In other news sea has been too high for us to go to first stop. Itinerary changed and first island dropped. Now plan is to sail Saturday evening for Ephesus, Turkey

Winds are at 35 mph.

Parthenon Postcard

The Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens has been here for 25 centuries. It has survived wars, looting, desecration, and pollution and yet it stands.

Night view from a restaurant  Wednesday evening.

We walked up for a close up view early Thursday morning.

Relief below is reproduction. Original looted by Lord Elgin and now in British Museum. Greece wants them back.

Renovation work continues.

Looking up from starting point

Today, Friday we head to the small ship for the rest of our trip to five or more islands.

First Day Postcard

It’s sad to say but graffiti is one of the first things to catch your eye when driving through Athens.

Our hotel is very close to the Acropolis so here’s my first view of it. Thursday we walk up there.

Our driver from the airport said Greece is a small country of 10 million and half live in Athens. I’m glad he was driving and not us.

Here I am enjoying a cup of mint tea at a local shop.

A final note. We almost had a mishap with luggage. Dan’s didn’t show up on conveyor belt. We went to report it knowing that it was on the plane based on my Air Canada app. The agent came back with us to belt and spied one blue suitcase, not Dan’s. Then another which had been placed with Viking tour luggage. It was his. Relief!

Off to Orientation then dinner with Roads Scholar group.
