Earth from the Moon

In August I took a trip to Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland

Let me share just a bit of that trip today.

In the gathering room there was a sphere suspended that videos were projected upon.

The docent shared one where Apollo astronauts first glimpsed Earth from the moon.

We could hear the dialog between them as they scrambled to get the right film to capture the incredible sight.

They each had a different perspective and their spaceship was rotating so each astronaut in turn had a chance to see the sight before they lost that view.

We had a chance to see other videos projected on the sphere as we awaited the docent who would take us on our tour.  I think this last one is the sun but I may not be remembering correctly.  There is a unmanned mission to the sun sending back photos like this.

I'll have more to share another time on the Goddard visit.
