What to Do With a Broken Plate

 Here's the herb garden which I redid this year.  I had to try to tame the oregano - right edge of the bed - and needed to replace some herbs that died out.  I have had a broken white plate in my herb garden for a couple of years. It's not visible but sat in the ground between the oregano and the savory.

One of my hobbies is Zentangle.  The act of doing it is Tangling.  I go to a club meeting once a month so grabbed the plain white plate and decided to decorate it with tangles.  I used permanent ink but don't know if the design will weather well.

Here's the plate in a new spot stuck in the ground in front of the basils and cilantro.

Too much of the bottom edge design was not visible this way so I got a stand.

Here it is on the stand.

I used 2 colors of pink, purple and black.  Dan gave it the stamp of approval!

Hmm ...  I have three more whole plates.  May just have to tangle them, too.

Herb Garden

  
The herb garden is one of the eight triangles in the perennial garden and an easy walk from the kitchen.  Above it's the bed on the right.

 Each corner of the triangle has a clump of chives.  I've used the flowers for bouquets.

 Here's the sage taken just before the blooms opened.  The last photo will show it in bloom.  I have two plants, a thin leafed and a round leaf variety.

 Here's the rosemary.  Of all the plants this is the least hardy.  I don't know what number rosemary this is, but they usually last two years if I'm lucky.

 The savory is a wonderful flavoring.  I like it in zucchini and in asparagus soup.

 The lavender is in the center and I'll use it's flowers.  There's a broken plate buried in front of it.

 The oregano will take over the bed if I let it.  I'm sorry I didn't plant it in a pot which is what I did with the mint below.

 Here's an annual - a Thai basil.

 Another annual - cilantro.

 Finally here's the thyme also a good spreader but at least I don't find it in other parts of the garden.

 And here's the bed with the sage in bloom looking back at the porch. 

So handy to have the herb garden there to access with fresh herbs just at the point they needed to be added to what I'm cooking. 

Herbs in the Perennial Garden

My herb garden occupies one of the triangle beds in the perennial garden.
I have a wide assortment of herbs there.

Chives with their lovely purple blossoms - one of three plants each in a corner of the triangle.

There's a wide leaf sage (above) and a narrow leaf sage (below). I thought I had lost the top one but it survived. The narrow leaf with its flowers is visited daily by the hummingbird.

Cilantro which is just an annual for me.

Basil started from seeds indoors and transplanted here.

Oregano the most prolific grower and self seeder. I find it everywhere and pull it out.

The mint is confined to a pot. I probably should have done this with the oregano. This year I transplanted the mint to a bigger pot and reburied it.

Another chive. On the far right you can see creeping thyme that I'm trying to grow to cover the paths of the perennial garden.

Savory, one of my favorites to use with vegetables.
