White Mountain Trip

We spent two nights in the White Mountains, specifically North Woodstock, NH.  It's the off season now between summer and leaf peeper time so the crowds were light but also meant that not much was open. Our plan to drive to the Cog Railway and go to the top of Mount Washington was derailed by the weather.  No reason to pay that price to see the clouds.  Instead we took a gondola to the top of Cannon Mountain (free for NH seniors) and viewed the clouds from there.

We also paid our respects at Franconia Notch to the site where the Old Man of the Mountain once hung cantilevered over the notch. Despite many attempts to save it, erosion took its toll and the rocks fell in 2003.

It was to be a relaxing time though Dan was bothered by a toothache that necessitated a call to his endodontist. He was able to get an appointment for the next afternoon so instead of seeing more scenery on Thursday we just headed home after breakfast.  He needs another root canal on a tooth next to the last root canal.  He will have some relief on Wednesday this week.

We have two more trips booked this year including one to Quebec.  Our first venture out of the USA since October 2019 when we went to Barcelona.

I love your pictures from this trip. Outings like this are always lots of fun. So sorry about your husband's toothache. I am glad that he could get an appointment quickly and will have some relief soon. Have a good Sunday. See you again tomorrow.

...as a boy I rode the Cog Railroad, is a coal burning steam engine. The Old Man of the Mountain Profiler was still intact then.

Mt Washington had some icing this week. It is a nice time to be in the mountains. We are going to do the rail cars with our grand hopefully soon.
Sorry about the toothache

i just LOVE the NH mountains (the only one I've climbed is Mt Sunapee). I'd love to hike up the one you did with the gondola ride!

That's so much fun! We have a John F Kennedy lava rock profile on the island of Maui. I think I saw it decades ago.

It looks like you could have used some sunny days. Beautiful nevertheless. We are headed to the Saluda Mountains, which are part of the Blue Ridge Mountains, next week in search of some cooler weather. Can’t wait!

We have also taken the Cannon Mountain tram on a previous visit and the free ride was great! You are right in saying there’s no need to pay a high fee to take the Cog railway on such a foggy day. Hope Dan’s toothache didn’t deter him from enjiying the getaway too much. How did you enjoy your accommodations in Woodstock?
