We are moving!
Ever since daughter Sarah moved away from here last summer I have raised the issue of moving closer to either one of the two daughters.
With the forced isolation of the pandemic that distance has become greater. Dan came around to feeling as I did and we made the decision.
We considered the two states: New York and New Hampshire and the latter won out as being friendlier for retirees.
We've given our 90 days notice to Vantage Point and will be moving to an apartment at the end of July in Lebanon, NH close to daughter Emily and family who lives 20 minutes south of there.
It's a one year lease as we decide whether to purchase a house or return to living in a retirement community but with NH as our new home state.
This list is long of what we have to do before July 31st but no downsizing to speak of so that's a relief.
It's amazing to think we've done this all online: finding an apartment, touring apartment, leasing apartment, and even getting a moving estimate by providing a video of our rooms.

I'll keep you posted on the unraveling of our life here in Maryland. We've been here since 1974 and have lived in 5 different places. Moving, not unfamiliar to us, but New Hampshire will be a new adventure. Fortunately we have been traveling to that area since 1999 when we took Emily to Dartmouth to start her freshman year. She never came back to Maryland and has made her life there. Sarah also attended Dartmouth, but she was our world traveler who came back, made a home in the Washington area for a time but now Buffalo is home.
We have been making the trip up to NH for 21 years! It will be good to go there to stay.

Moving sounds like a terrific idea! My brother in Maryland is thinking of moving ,too, after his other half retires, too...I hope you settle in quickly and love it!
Fifteen years ago, we made a big and rather expensive move to be closer to our daughter. We have not regretted it. People say we're lucky to be near her and the kids, and we are, but we made the effort and paid a price.
You are right - New Hampshire has a lot of retirement places. Tom's parents lived in one, but are now in an assisted living one. Her old one is for sale -haha.
Lebanon is a good size with lots going on. I think you'll be happy up here, but the weather will not be the same!!!
Good for you. A big decision especially as it was just a few years ago that you moved to your current apartment. This lockdown has made many of us think about our future.
It is amazing you could make the decision and accomplish all that without leaving home! As Marie said, I think we are all thinking of changes as we go through this pandemic. I’m ready to move countries — to one with saner government! My daughter lives in Germany and the difference in her situation and ours is night and day.
I’d happily move to England with my son, dil and two grandkids but it’s so difficult..but very few whiners over there and none carrying guns....their restrictions are tougher than ours....

At least no down sizing means you dont have to throw stuff out before you move house!!

Hi Marcia from a first time visitor who saw your comment today on AC’s blog and noticed the comment about NH where we now live. That led me to your blog and this post that you are relocating here. We did the same, over 4 years ago when we moved from a very small VA town from our native NJ. But after 12 years and tiring of old house projects, we decided to relocate closer to my husband’s family in New England. We live in a former textile mill in Nashua, NH, that has been repurposed as apt homes (not condos). We have visited Lebanon a few times and wish you well in the moving process.
