Birds Out My Window

These were all taken out my window that overlooks our small pond.  One of the bird feeders is there which makes it a very attractive spot.

The photos below were taken in the weeks before our big snow.

And a sad postscript.  While we were shoveling the snow both garage doors were wide open.  When I came in from working I heard something under my car and just caught sight of the movement.  I thought it was a mouse.  Later since my study shares a wall with the garage I thought I heard noises from there.  I went to check and found that a wren had come into the garage and gotten stuck to a sticky trap I'd placed in there months ago to stop mice.  All it had stopped was bugs which must have been the attraction for the wren.  It's feet were stuck fast.  I took a spatula and as gently as I could worked its feet off the sticky stuff.  The bird complained as I did this.  Finally it was released and it flew off but I don't think it was a happy ending for the wren.  All I could imagine was it being stuck then to the branch it landed on or getting its beak stuck to its feet as it tried to clear off the sticky stuff.  Wrens are too curious for their own good.  This wasn't the first time I've had a wren in the garage, but this was the first time the story ended sadly.

Nice lot of birds you have in your garden.

Maybe the snow won't allow the feet to stick to a branch. Here's hoping anyway. (Will reply to email asap, just making sure I have the correct dates for the different places I am going to visit.)

Think positive for the little wren, you did what you could to help her.
Beautiful clear shots you got, my neighbor had a pair of bluebirds at her feeder & I was so hoping that they would stop here, but haven`t seen them, have a great rest of the week, phyllis

Oh I hope the wren is ok! Maybe pouring some warm water over it's feet would have helped. I don't know. You got some great photos...such a wonderful variety of birds!

That exact thing happened to us one time several years ago... Our little bird (a finch I think) didn't make it since he was totally stuck to that thing.. I just cried and cried when that happened... Since then, we don't have those traps around here at all.

Great set of pictures.
Hugs,
Betsy

Oh, how I miss birds here in the winter! We only have an occasional Blue Jay. No winter birds in our yard. It's so still and quiet, no movement in the trees. You have a wonderfully colorful mix of yard birds!
Poor wren, an unfortunate mishap.

We don't get so many birds coming to feed in winter since the climate changed. Now they can easily forage for themselves. But we can hear them singing and chirping and flying about in the distance.
