More from the East Wing of the National Gallery

On the rooftop of the East Wing sits this blue rooster.  It looked very familiar and I learned why.  It sat on a plinth at Trafalgar Square in 2014 when we visited London.

In London below.

To put it on the rooftop it was taken apart and lifted up by crane.  Even in parts it was too big for the doorways.

In Washington.

The man responsible was there at the rooster when we arrived.

The rooster has a great view of Constitution Ave.

Here is the sculptor responsible for the rooster she has titled it Hahn/Cock

Several of the Vantage House residents remembered seeing the rooster at the Glenstone Museum.

Celebrating the 4th

Using the fireworks setting on the camera, here is what the fireworks looked like in downtown Columbia, from the penthouse level of Vantage House.  We were at a party in one of the lovely penthouses.  They had chairs all set up on their patios to view the display.  As were awaiting the event we could see other displays on the horizon all around us.

There was almost a full moon.

As more and more fireworks exploded the smoke started blocking some of the display.

Garden Visit

I loaded my Prius with three friends from here at Vantage House and we went into Washington DC to visit one of the 15 most beautiful gardens in this area.  This one was at the Franciscan Monastery.  Here are the garden photos to enjoy.  The tour of the sanctuary and catacombs will come in another posting.

Lots of statues of St. Francis of Assisi.

We missed the rose display by a week or more.

In the shade gardens.

Here's the sanctuary.
