It's cold out there. First thing every morning I build a fire in the woodstove.
Work on the old store to convert it to a library and community center is progressing next door.
We have snow on the ground after several small snowfalls. Very cold temperatures are forecast for this weekend.
I painted a bench we got for free and now it's my plant stand. Every amaryllis bulb I planted has sprouted.

What do you use to clean the glass on your wood stove?
I had to look in our manual. I don't think I've ever cleaned it. The manual says for inside the glass to use a soft bristle brush like a paint brush or very fine steel wool if there's heavy soot. This is a stove made by Woodstock Soapstone in Lebanon, NH. The Keystone model.
...that fire almost warmed me up.
You should soon see a very nice display of flowers there.
In one of our homes going back 30 years or so, we had a woodstove similar to this and it could put out a great amount of heat. The minute I looked at yours I remembered how wonderful it was to come in from the cold. Your painted potting bench is perfect and I'm sure you are looking forward to seeing the amaryllis bloom. I answered your question on my blog about The Battle of Bull Run, if you'd like take a look when you get a chance. Thanks for visiting me.
That bench will look delightful when the plants are in flower.
I am encouraged to see the library coming along. I hope it will become a dynamic hub in your community.
Well i sure am glad I popped in here! i've been trying to figure out how to get a plant stand into my dining room (east window) for more African violets and now I know to look for a bench at the local thrift store and paint it if necessary and turn it into a plant stand!! I never thought of that!! Thanks!!
Your woodstove is something i'm envious of. I want one. hubby says he does not. Sigh.
Marcia, that wood stove fire looks wonderful and must be so warming in this bitter cold weather. That repurposed bench has a good new use and the flowers seem to like it too. We are also forecast to get a possible snow accumulation from late Sunday into Monday so working on a jigsaw puzzle received at Christmas is in my plans as is staying warm indoors.
Having growing/blooming plants in deep winter is so satisfying.
A nice warm fire on a .cold day, what more could you ask for
Wood stoves give off such lovely even heat. Stay warm on your cold days.
Ah, how well I remember the woodstove days! It was a love-hate relationship---loved the heat and coziness, hated the mess, the ashes, not to mention the hard work of gathering enough wood. Your stove looks so lovely, Marcia. Makes me miss ours.
