In May Dan's brother showed us this picture in this frame that was with their mother's belongings. He wondered then who this was and asked us. We don't know either and since Dennis didn't want it I brought it home and have had it in the window sill.
It's a precious photo of some little girl unknown. With closer examination Dan and I realized it was likely someone in the family dressed up as a Dutch girl. The background tells us it's not a photo from a studio or even from The Netherlands. It's not his mother because the hair and face are not hers.
Here's the back of the frame.
The photo was wedged in using tissue.
On the back of the photo is this.
A Google search of Pixie Snap or Snap Pixie yielded nothing. Dan searched using the photo and it came up with other old photos in oval frames.
So who is this little girl all dressed up for some occasion?

How pretty. I hope someone has some info for you. Happy weekend!
Quite a mystery. I too have some old family photos of mystery people. Some have undecipherable writing on the back, which is even more frustrating.
I hope you can eventually identify your little girl. It's such a sweet photo.A couple ideas come to mind: we're any of the family from New York state, or other state with a Dutch heritage? Perhaps it was taken for a local festival. Since it was framed and she kept it, it must have been someone important to her.
The photo seems pretty crisp, and that's chain link fence behind her, so I am guessing this was taken in the 50s or 60s. Narrowing down the time period might be a help to figuring it out. If it was taken in mid 1950s, she would be about 75 by now. Are there any cousins in that age range?
Another thought, or two: my husband suggested Pennsylvania as a possible place of Dutch heritage. And I got to thinking tgat festivals weren't really a big thing in the 50s and just barely got started in the 60s, so it seems more likely tgat it was some other local event, perhaps celebrating the anniversary of a town's founding or something like that.
Sue, Your second comment came through twice that's why it was deleted. Dan's mother lived in VA all her life. It's possible that it was a cousin or cousin's child pictured. Not sure why she is dressed up because no Dutch heritage that we're aware of. Dan's mom died in 2024 at age 92. Cousins would be older and younger. I'll have to ask Dan if he could think of any. Thanks for your suggestions.
What a lovely mystery to research or just make up stories about!
Maybe the little Dutch girl is a childhood friend of the deceased. Linda in Kansas
...you can write a story in your mind!
I hope you solve the mystery and tell us about it.
You’d think there would be some connection with th=his mother but maybe it’s just a random picture that she liked.
The origin will perhaps remain a mystery but you can enjoy the picture anyway.
