Unusual Stone Markings

When we created the Deck Garden bed last year once the deck was completed, I had Dan help me move stones to edge the bed. This large one that he placed at the bulkhead entrance is very strange.

It has cut marks on it as though someone sharpened a stone on it.

Maybe the cut marks were intended to be a design.

Dan can't remember where he gathered the stone from but it hadn't been underground.

Anyone have an explanation for me?

...nature's handiwork?

I have no clue but the stone does make for interesting conversation, doesn't it!

It could be happenstance, but I really have no clue.

Try looking up "Native American sharpening stone" on Google and scanning through the images. I think you'll find something similar. They were used for sharpening arrowheads and stone tools.

It looks to me as if it was used to sharpen knives or other tools by someone.
