Hummingbirds

I put my hummingbird feeder up over a week ago when I checked the migration map and saw that the birds had been spotted in New Hampshire. It wasn't very long before the hummingbirds arrived and I had to fill the feeder a bit fuller.

Dan and I enjoy sitting on the deck to watch the antics of the male trying to keep other males away. Yesterday one male has taken up residence on the staff and attacks any other hummingbird that comes close. I was finally able to get some almost in focus photos.  Problem is going through the glass of the sliding door compounded by shaking hands.

We're in sync! I put mine up yesterday (finally) After seeing some flittings toward the red flowers in my hanging planters, I decided to brew up some nectar (4 parts water to 1 part sugar, boiled then cooled.) I haven't opened the door yet to see if anyone is coming (too cold so far this morning). But if I close the storm door sliding window I could do so! I'll be watching!! Your little male is asserting his territory. I've seen that lots of times!

You did well to capture them at all. They’re so fast! We are enjoying our hummingbird feeders, too. We have one placed over a window where we can both keep an eye on it from our rocking chairs. Better than tv!

it was very good of them mostly to sit for you.
