Book Recommendation

Have you read anything by Jojo Moyes?

I just finished "Someone Else's Shoes".

An excellent read of mixed up gym bags that leads to different and life changing experiences.

It's the 54th book read this year.

Now to update my Books Read 2023 list.  You can access it below.

Bellows Falls, VT

We had read in a book about NH that Bellows Falls on the eastern edge of Vermont on the Connecticut River is where you can see two ancient continents coming together. NH's geology was from one continent and VT's from another, though now I can find nothing on the internet about this.

Anyway, Sunday last we set off to explore and have lunch in Bellows Falls.  The map said there was a welcome center but it wasn't opened.  We did manage to find the gorge and the bridge that is closed from VT to NH.

Here's the bridge looking towards NH.

Looking back towards Bellows Falls.

Can you see the train junk yard in NH below?

Under the bridge is the gorge.  That's an old railroad bridge at the top of the photo.

To us the rocks on the right (above) and left (below) that are in NH look different than the VT side rocks.

There are supposed to be petroglyphs here.  We didn't see them.

Here's a photo from the internet.  And here's more information about them HERE.

From the bridge we went to find a place for lunch and settled on a local pub.

A lovely old spot with friendly staff and good beer and food.

From there we walked the business district, reading the historical markers,

stopping for dessert and coffee at  the Flat Iron Exchange.

Then it was time to head home because skies were getting darker.  Just enough time to grab a shot of a remade fire station and a mural.

In our car with raindrops falling we explored the old warehouse district now a park and someone was creative with these old window spaces.

A nice get away afternoon and back home before the rain started where we live.

A Wednesday Walk

I joined the walking group last Wednesday for a walk in Windsor, VT at Paradise Park. There was no rain that day but the trail next to the lake was muddy in parts.  As I said yesterday with all our rain plants are looking lush.

An assortment of leaf shapes in this photo along with a few blackberries forming.

At one end of the lake the water lilies make a cover.

A delicate flower on a climber, maybe morning glory?

Sweet peas

And these were named for me as Canadian lilies.

Here's the final narrow path that took as to an access point and a street where we found the cafe Boston Dreams - a spot for a hot or cold drink and conversation before returning by Main Street to our cars.

Another walk planned for this Wednesday will keep us on a road.  Trails are too slick.

Monday Morning

As I write this Monday morning we are having more rain.  There's over an inch already in the rain gauge and rain forecasted for all day here.  Ground is already saturated from rain in June and now July.

Most plants are loving it.

The CSA gardens are lush.  I was there last Thursday to pick up.  The peas on the far right were taller than me and I didn't have to step far very in the row to pick two quarts.

Tomatoes in the hoop house are giant too.

My potted plants and perennials are thriving.

And this lovely day lily is in bloom.  I have another day lily that needs moving because it's being overtaken by the spider wort.  Hard to garden though in the rain.
