Readers, Welcome to my blog (formerly Birds, Blooms, Books, etc). I'm entering a new decade taking on the challenge of moving from Maryland after living there 46 years and learning about my new home here in New England in the Live Free or Die state - New Hampshire. Join me as a write this new chapter of my life.

Local Birds

First, this robin perched in a lilac bush outside our sliding glass door.  Looks like it's making eye contact with the camera.  Robins are plentiful now.  Unlike in Maryland where they winter over in flocks now, robins come to New Hampshire when spring temperatures have risen.

Turkeys are plentiful all the time.  I think it may even be turkey hunting season.

We saw this flock crossing the field and the tom turkey had its feathers in full array.  Wouldn't you know that when I got the camera out, it had put them away.

I am surprised that we haven't had any visit our yard yet.  They seem to love that field and the woods across from it.

You Gotta Laugh -1

These were shared with me by my friend Marilyn under the category:

They Had One Job!

I hope you laugh as much as I did.

The View from Here

We had thunder snow late yesterday afternoon but even after that it kept snowing.

Here is what it looks like this morning with temperatures at 25ยบ.

It is beautiful but not what I'd expect to be raving about on April 22nd.

Happy Earth Day 2021.

Bonfire

Spring.

Snow on the ground.

Bonfire time?

This pile was much larger made up of garden refuse that doesn't compost, and tree trimmings including some of our old lilacs that broke in the snow storm.  We arrived an hour after the burn began. The coals were hot and ready.

The bonfire was to happen in the fall but the pile was too wet to start then. After sitting with a tarp over it through the winter, it was nice and dry.  But everything around was tinder dry so fire restrictions through March and early April prevented the burning.  Only with the snow on the ground did fire restrictions lift.

Bonfire means s'mores!

Both granddaughters partook as did I.
