A Variation to Wednesday Walk

Setting out on Wednesday at 10 am.  Chilly morning again.  Here's my road heading out of the Flat.

The old double wide is still in the field but ...

the new double wide is up on the hill where the old one used to live.

The variation today was to take the road to the left.  It's at the first rise and

it's all uphill.  I figure it's a good way to condition myself for climbing the Acropolis in Athens in April.

Taking a breather and looking back down the way I came. When the going is steep I tack, zig zagging like a sailboat up the hill.

Only a few houses on this road but a real climb.  I feel it in my lungs.

A shade stop because I'm getting warm.

Ok, time to turn around.  My walking time had to be shortened today because we were scheduled to get our flu and covid vaccines at noon.

Going down is harder on the knees.  Next time I'll bring my hiking stick because I had to watch my foot placement so I didn't slip on the rocky surface.

A closer look at the new double wide on my return.  The two sides are not attached yet and I have to wonder what happens to the tires.

It's placement will give the tenants the best view.

What colors I see are muted.  When I look closer the trees' leaves are just shriveling up and dropping. Our lack of rain is taking a toll on the fall colors.

Heading home.

I got a shot in each arm.  I took ibuprophen beforehand.  Don't know if that will help the soreness or not. I'll let you know.
Who has gotten their covid and flu shots?

Pretty hills when you're up at the top of the climb.
As an RN and over 65, I got my tenth covid shot mid-June. i was concerned nothing would be available late fall due to politics. My doc likes flu shots done in October, to protect us over the winter. I'll check if the new version of covid is available late November.
I'd read recently that it's best not to premedicate with tylenol, as it's supposedly keeping the good things in the shot from absorbing better into our immune system. Yea, I know, I remember premedicating our kids so they wouldn't be so cranky with all of their shots. Ice is good over the spot.
No matter, glad you got your shots. Better than the alternatives. Linda in Kansas

...Marcia, I would have a hard time keeping up with you. Here in the Adirondacks today we were out exploring.

What a fabulous place to walk. I got my Covid booster before I went to Africa in May, so I'll be waiting a bit for the next one. I plan to get my flu shot in early October. Hope you're feeling okay.

Good for you for tackling the hill! Here, any direction I take will mean climbing a hill. And yes, going down is so much harder on the knees.
My storytelling friend Carol is 86, abd they just booked a nine day trip to Paris with the Road Scholars program in the Spring. Do she too has been walking in preparation. She already walks about 2 miles a day, so I think she is amazing---as are you!

Looks like a really good workout, Marcia. Keep it up and you’ll be in great shape to scamper all over Greece!

You sound like you're in great shape already. The Acropolis is beautiful. I do have a funny memory. My granddaughter asked me to take Flat Stanley there to take a photo for her school. The guards there made me put it away. They were almost going to confiscate it. Oops!

I just found the blog post I wrote about that incident. https://travelerswife.blogspot.com/search?q=acropolis
