We had a speaker one evening here in our town who has written a book about state historical markers.
It was quite a fascinating presentation so I bought his book. Dan read it cover to cover and then one day we set out to explore an area we hadn't really visited and planned to stop wherever we saw a historical marker. It was the trip I wrote about the Civil War monuments.
Here are three of the historical markers we spotted and I photographed.
Anyone in the state can petition for a historical marker but it is reviewed against very specific criteria and is limited by the number of words and spaces.
As we travel our state we will continue to be on the lookout for historical markers using this book and looking for these signs that the state thankfully puts up to let you know when one is coming up.

This is so cool! My husband was stationed in New Hampshire when he was in the Air Force. He would have loved to follow you on this trip.
