What I'm Harvesting

I am amazed that the tomato plants keep producing.  There doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

I picked this basketful tonight.

Here's what I already have on the kitchen counter that I need to use or freeze.

I made an oriental soup for dinner with these greens: tatsoi, bok choy and I guess the greens from the mesclun mix that are growing are mustard greens.  They had a strong taste.

Fourth and final butternut squash.

As a postscript, my 94 year old mother is very ill and I've had lots of trips there to be with her.  I'll be going again next week.  Yesterday my daughters went with me to visit for what may be their last time with her.  Bittersweet.

Ahhh--your mother looks great. So sorry that she is sick. What a gorgeous lady. Glad your daughters got to see her... My prayers are with her and the family.

You have some of the prettiest tomatoes I've seen this season. Wow--bet you have really enjoyed them..

Hugs and Prayers,
Betsy

So sorry to hear your mother is not doing well. My prayers are with you. I'm very impressed with your harvests. My vegetable garden got so weedy, I'm going to pull everything up and try again next spring!

She does look lovely but her heart is laboring mightily and she has pneumonia. She's on oxygen constantly now, too. Thanks for your prayers.

The weather agreed with the tomatoes this year. I have so many frozen and lots of sauce made for the winter months. Thanks for your prayers.

She tries hard to keep up her appearance but is fading fast. She can't walk far and must be pushed in a wheelchair outside her apartment to meals or to sit out in the sun which she is rarely doing now.

Oh, Marcia, my heart goes out to you. Your mom is lovely...such beauty at 94! I lost my mom at age 95 a year and a half ago. Even though you are blessed with their presence for so many years, you are never ready to say good-by!
Hugs to you!

Patricia - I do remember you writing about your mother's death and wondered how I would cope. Well. I'll find out soon enough. She says she won't be around for Thanksgiving this year. She just passed two significant dates: my dad's birthday on the 12th and their anniversary today. My dad died two days after my mom's 89th birthday. He insisted we sing happy birthday to her the night of her birthday. He could barely sing himself.

I am so glad I only planted cherry tomatoes and don't have all that responsibility of what to do with the produce !
Thank you for sharing about your Mom - a tender time, wonderful photos.
Our thoughts will be with you.

Wow, she looks so pretty and looks happy. I'm sure her having time with you and her family means the world to her, whatever time she has left you are filling it with family and that's what matters. Our thoughts and prayers with her.
