In the afternoon more had gathered.
Below the gold fish are just visible through the ice.

Mourning Doves
Today was a cold blustery day. Strong winds made it feel so much colder than it was and these mourning doves chose to congregate under the bird feeder this morning and early into the afternoon. Some of them napped in the sun using their coloring to hide from any soaring hawks.

Hi Marcia, I took a picture of a Mourning Dove just this morning ---sitting in the plate feeder (like he owned the world ---or was protecting the feeder from other birds)... ha
Yours look very cold since they are all puffed up... Why didn't you invite them in for some hot chocolate??? Poor little birds... ha ha

I love the Mourning Doves ... I have a little group that gathers around my feeders daily. In the winter they all sit in the heated birdbath to get warm ... water and all. They are beutiful in their subtle colors. Great shots ...

The hawks think they are very sweet. I'm surprised I saw no feathers out there this morning.

The doves are a staple at my feeders year round. I love when they coo.

We have a fish pond as well and I too am always surprised about the ice but seeing the fish gives me comfort that they are still there. :)
The mourning doves look such gentle creatures! I find it quite relazing to watch them amble quietly round my home - on the verandah, in the garden, on the grass, on the roof. Lovely photos!
