Welcome reader to my blog - a mixture of this and that. Now that we are living in a retirement community in downtown Columbia, MD my personal gardening activities are somewhat curtailed. I still enjoy visiting gardens, reading, watching wildlife on my walks, traveling, and occasional food commentary. Please leave a comment if you feel inspired to do so. I read every one of them.

The Glen Garden

The glen garden is along the edge of the woods where the forest conservation area begins.  If you stand  here you can often hear the stream down in the glen gurgling as it travels along its way.  This is the perfect spot for shade loving plants. Many of these were gifts, some I bought and many of the ferns were transplants from the woods.

Walk along the edge with me and enjoy the sights.

We'll start at the eastern end and head west.

This is the west end looking back to the east.

Back to the start.  See those branches back there?  I hope to build a log fence with help from Dan this summer.

Beautiful! I'm surprised all these plants survive your deer.

I like to think I've trained the deer with the product Liquid Fence. I have to spray it every month. with new fawns coming soon they need to be trained too.

Beautiful! Seems like the perfect getaway spot :) do you know the name of that silver fern-type in the second photo?

Annie - I believe that fern is called a Japanese painted fern (Athyrium niponicum). It grows much slower than my other ferns.

Such a pretty bed! Love the touches of whimsy, too. I bet sitting in that swing is heavenly. It looks very shady and relaxing. I think a log fence behind the bed will look perfect.
