Moving Again!

Yes, believe it or not we are moving after just over two months here in this one bedroom at Vantage House. But that was the plan all along though we never expected it would happen so soon, nor that we would get the type of two bedroom unit we wanted and on the same floor we are now.  There are only 12 of these types of units out of 100s of units so it was a long shot we thought.

Move day is next week.  Movers have been ordered.  Vantage House is paying the bill.  The unit is still in renovation stages but the finish date is Friday or Saturday.  The cleaning crew tackles it on Monday and then we move in.

Here are some shots as of today.  We could see the colors we had picked out for the walls.  Pale yellow in the living area, brighter yellow in our extra bedroom we are calling a multipurpose room and deeper yellows in the bathrooms.  Our bedroom is two shades of brown.

Unlike our present apartment we will have views in three directions instead of just one.

We are excited by the prospect of finally being settled in our home for many years to come.

Fifty Books

I just finished reading my 50th book for this year.  At this rate I may hit 75 by the end of the year.  Last year I got to 69 books. You can see my list of books read on the left sidebar.

I have been making my way through Louise Penny's series on Chief Inspector Gamache.  If you like well written mysteries I highly recommend this series.  The first one is "Still Life" which I read last year.  Because the public library didn't have the next one I went out of order reading them.  My library here at Vantage House has them all so now I'm reading them in order having just finished the 9th in the series.  Today I checked out the 10th!  Besides being intriguing mysteries taking place in Quebec, the author must have a passion for food because her descriptions of the food being served and eaten makes me so hungry.  If I take a trip to Quebec I will make sure to sample the food.

Sorry for the quality of these photos.  I walked around the lake and came up with the idea for this post.  My only camera handy was on my phone.

It's wonderful having a large library on the first floor of my home.

There are newspapers each day and lots of magazines too.

Lots of comfy chairs to sit and read, even a fireplace.

The nearest public library is a short walk away but it has been closed for renovations all summer.  I look forward to that re opening.

Life is good.  I think I'll go start a new book.

River Crossings

When we drive home from New Hampshire on I - 91 we cross lots of rivers that empty into the Connecticut River.  The interstate follows the Connecticut River as it flows south and we end up crossing it in Massachusetts and then Connecticut.  Later we have to cross the Hudson River, too.

These photos were taken from the car on our drive home on Monday.

First the Cornish-Windsor Bridge - longest covered bridge in the US connecting Cornish, NH to Windsor, VT.

Here are several rivers we cross as we head south in Vermont.

Then we start crossing the Connecticut River.

This is the Tappan Zee Bridge over the Hudson River.

Work is going on to replace the current bridge with two 4 lane spans.  It's a year behind schedule.

All the construction made us want to stop and watch but there was no where to do that.

The Hudson is visible to the left as we head west.  We could see the skyline of New York City, too.

Wellwood Orchard Petting Zoo

We spent a long weekend in New Hampshire to babysit the granddaughter so Emily & Matt could have a get away.  We had a lovely time.  Our one outing with granddaughter was a return to Wellwood Orchard and its petting zoo.

This chicken looked like it was crossed with a pigeon.

When we told granddaughter where we were taking her she told us there would be peacocks and they would squawk.

The peacocks were amazingly quiet.  It was the roosters that couldn't stop cock a doodle doing.

This red and black bird was a pheasant we were told.

The goats were the boldest.

Once leaving the enclosure there are sinks for washing hands and brushes for cleaning shoe soles, a necessary task.
