Clock in Our Town

This church like building owned by our town is called The Meeting House.  It was once a church but given to the town quite a long time ago once the congregation disbanded.

In the tower is a clock.  The clock had been broken for many years and despite attempts to fix it locally, a specialist with a long wait list was hired.  He fixed it finally and with fits and starts it starting working again.

The clock faces on two sides were badly in need of repair so they were removed last year.

New clock faces appeared last week.

On the steeple you can't tell the size of the faces but look at this photo and see they are over 6 feet tall.

Both installed but still not connected to clock mechanism.

Thursday morning on returning from the library I noticed that the hands of the clock were working.

Being so close to The Meeting House you'd think the striking of each hour would be a nuisance sound.  It's not.  Sometimes I don't even notice it and wonder if the clock is working. Then the next hour comes and I hear it. Quite a pleasant sound.
