So here's the question for all you fellow bloggers:
If something were to happen to you and you couldn't blog to tell us, how would your readers know?
In my case I told my husband he would have to write something on my blog. He says he'll likely not be around and I'd better ask one of our daughters to do it.
This has come to mind because John of By Stargoose and Hanglands hasn't posted anything since July 31st. I posed the question to him in a comment within the last month asking if he was ok and my comment didn't even show up.
I know others of you have read and commented on his blog, so I wondered if you knew anything about John.

I don't know John and I never thought much about it. I have a cousin who blogs now and then she may do it or my daughter.

Interesting and that you bring this up. I was actually thinking about this last week (perhaps morbidly) but yes, I think I will put something about it our "final wishes" paperwork. I also know of other bloggers, who announced an illness such as cancer and then just disappeared. I was wondering about one woman that happened to. I assumed that she passed, but yes, it would be nice to know, because we become interested in and care about our blogger friends, even though we have never most of them.
Glad you mentioned this. I have a pre-published blog of "From a Past Tense." I is my good-bye blog, from me now, but to be posted after I'm no longer blogging. I just re-date it from time to time, and sometimes add a paragraph if I feel like it. So it's always in the future, whether I am or not!

A final blog post is something to think about.
To answer your question about the speckled butterbeans - yes, they are a type of lima bean grown here in the south. They lose their color when cooked, becoming a dark brown.

I have thought about this a number of times and keep meaning to add instructions for my son to leave a message and close the blog. Not done anything yet but the intention is there.
I am concerned when blog friends simply disappear with no explanation and I left written instructions with my papers for my sons about how to do a blog post when I do go to heaven. That sounds less morbid than when I die! Happily I know my destination. I hope the blogger John is ok.
I’ll want someone to post something both on Blogger and Flickr.
I asked a couple of English bloggers if they knew of John's circumstances, but no one seems to be able to find out anything. I suppose that without a name, address or a phone number it is virtually impossible. My wife would certainly post a notice on my blog.

This is a good reminder to let my daughter know. It's really sad when we don't know why a blogger friend should disappear from our cyber family.
I am worried about John also. I hope he is okay. I miss his beautiful photos and clever words.
If anything happens to me I know Paul will write something on my blog so I’m not worried about that.
While I am a bit late in reading this blog post, Marcia, it is very timely because as you said we DO become concerned when a blogger suddenly stops posting for an extended period, specifically the blogger, John, who you mentioned. I have also commented on his most recent, but long ago, July post and hope that he is just taking an extended break. In the past, there have been bloggers who have suddenly disappeared, sadly a couple did pass away. Grenville is an administrator on our blog and while he now posts infrequently, he would do an update…unless unable to do so.
When a blogger does not include an email address or any other means of contact, it does leave fellow bloggers wondering if illness or disinterest has happened or something worse.
And, like yourself, I also left a comment on John’s blog and while it posted, there has been no response to date. Hopefully, someone in the blogging community will,provide a future update, perhaps even John himself (we hope).
