My Book Stack

Currently reading and learning a lot:

It's about the migration from the south to north and west by African Americans starting around WWI and continuing until the late 1960s once Civil Rights legislation was passed.  The south was a horrible place to be black!  But those who had the courage, the same courage that immigrants from Europe and Asia had, came north and west for new opportunities. Unfortunately the prejudices and segregation continued but not to the same deadly degree. For one thing there was the right to vote and better paying work.

Also reading in spurts:

I read her autobiography and have it on my shelf as a keeper for now.  I purchased this one too and find I can read it in doses.

The stack by my desk has these library books:

The one on top is for the Feb 21 book group discussion.

The final book we purchased yesterday at church.  It's for the Lenten book series.  I think it will be heavy reading.

You have a lot of interesting books to read. My stack looks a lot different...I read mostly mysteries!

...Jim Crow led to the Great Migration!

Tom, You're exactly right and it took a certain courage to leave and the encouragement of those who went before them. Not unlike my ancestors fleeing persecution for their religious beliefs in the early 1700s.

Great collection of books, and I hope you'll tell us a bit about the ones you like.

I have the book The Warmth of Other Suns but haven't read it yet. I am starting The Harlem Renaissance with my junior English classes on Wednesday. I think they will enjoy it - I know I do! I read Michelle Obama's first book and really liked it. I have her second book on my reading list. Looks like you have some really great reading coming up! It is always fun to see what my blogging friends are reading. See you again soon!

Your reading list has some weightier topics than my own right now, but some interesting ones, Marcia.

Looks like you have plenty of good reading material on hand! I always keep about 20 ahead on my Kindle as I never know what I will be in the mood for when I have time to read. Currently reading Braiding Sweetgrass, still plugging away at The Hidden Life of Trees, and for fun, A Week in Winter.
