Welcome reader to my blog - a mixture of this and that. Now that we are living in a retirement community in downtown Columbia, MD my personal gardening activities are somewhat curtailed. I still enjoy visiting gardens, reading, watching wildlife on my walks, traveling, and occasional food commentary. Please leave a comment if you feel inspired to do so. I read every one of them.

SNOW - a Four Letter Word!!!

This is the scene mid-week last week.  With the cold snowy weather the deer are starving and to fill their bellies they are eating all the leaves off the English laurel bushes.

Saturday we had more snow - 9 inches or more.

It came from the south so piled up on the screens on the south side.

Son-in-law William, drove here from his apartment to spend the weekend with us while Sarah was out of town.  It took him 4 hours for what is normally a 50 minute trip.  1 hour of that was walking from where he had to park his car off the road.  When William hadn't shown up when we expected him, Dan walked out to meet him.  He ended up walking 3 miles to meet up with William and then walking back in the storm.  It was a messy storm that caught everyone by surprise because the forecast was wrong as to the start time and the amount we were to get.

Sunday morning they both were out to clear the driveway.

Snow may be beautiful but it sure can be a pain! I hope the deer leave the laurel alone and find something else tasty!

Looks like your son-in-law is the kind to have--a hard worker! We haven't had a fresh snow in a while now--and I'm not missing it.

Thats a lot of snow! Sales of snow blowers are soft here at present!

The shots from the top of the hill were taken in mid January. The kids were on holiday then, but back at school now.
