I have the perfect habitat for ferns since I live on the edge of the woods. I call that garden area the Glen and have planted an assortment of ferns there.
Many of the ferns have come directly from the woods.
This painted fern is a purchase and a slow grower compared to some of the others.
This is one of the strangest ferns and I have no recollection where I got it: woods or store.
The ostrich fern grows well in this wet weather but when it gets hot and dry it dies back.
This is one from the woods and easily transplanted.
At the Philadelphia Flower Show I purchased this fern. It came as tubers. I planted five in one bed and they are in different stages of growth.
Here it is flowering. I wonder what color the others will be?
I absolutely love ferns, though they don't love me back. Yours look very happy and healthy.

ReplyDeleteLovely ferns! I have natural occurring ferns in the adjacent woods. I have tried the Japanese Painted Fern, but I don't think it liked the location. I will have to try it again.
ReplyDeleteMarcia love your ferns but hate mine. Mine are all wild ferns and they have moved into on perennial bed so bad that I to dig the entire bed this summer and redo it in order to get rid of them for a couple of years.
ReplyDeleteI think the unidentified fern is the Sensitive Fern (Onoclea sensibilis). It is called that because it dies back at the first sign of cold weather. I started with one and they multiply each year.
ReplyDeleteI love ferns too. I've got a lot of shade in my yard so it's one plant that does well for me. I love all the different kinds you have. I didn't realize there were so many!
