Great Statements About Getting Older

I'm responsible for what I say, not what you understand.

Common sense is like deodorant. The people who need it the most never use it.

My tolerance for idiots is extremely low these days. I used to have some immunity built up, but obviously there's a new strain out there.

It's not my age that bothers me; it's the side effects.

I'm not saying I'm old and worn out, but I make sure I'm nowhere near the curb on trash day.

As I watch this generation try and rewrite our history, I'm sure of one thing: It will be misspelled and have no punctuation.

As I've gotten older, people think I've become lazy. The truth is I'm just being more energy efficient.

I haven't gotten anything done today. I've been in the Produce Department trying to open this stupid plastic bag.

If you find yourself feeling useless, remember it took 20 years, trillions of dollars, and four presidents to replace the Taliban with the Taliban.

Turns out that being a "senior" is mostly just googling how to do stuff.

I want to be 18 again and ruin my life differently. I have new ideas.

I'm on two diets. I wasn't getting enough food on one.

I put my scale in the bathroom corner and that's where the little liar will stay until it apologizes.

My mind is like an internet browser.  At least 19 open tabs, 3 of them are frozen, and I have no clue where the music is coming from.

Hard to believe I once had a phone attached to a wall, and when it rang, I picked it up without knowing who was calling.

Apparently RSVPing to a wedding invitation "Maybe next time" isn't the correct response.

She says I keep pushing her buttons. If that were true, I would have found mute by now.

So you've been eating hot dogs and McChickens all your life, but you won't take the vaccine because you don't know what's in it.  Are you kidding me?

Sometimes God puts you in the same situation again to see if you're still a dumb-a-s.

There is no such thing as a grouchy old person. The truth is that once you get old, you stop being polite and start being honest.

Thanks to my friend, Marilyn, for sharing these with me.

Wednesday Walk and Cast Off

With Wednesday's appointment to have the cast removed and first OT appointment, I opted to do my own walk from home.

With the rain earlier in the week stream was very full.

Thankfully roads were no longer muddy.

The above and below are an old cellar, now overgrown.

This wall runs along this stream.  I wonder if it was a mill race.

This is the Grange Hall.  I've never seen it open.

The former schoolhouse is now the Mason's Hall.

These forsythia look like mine with

flowers along the bottom edges only. Mine are below.

And here's the cast off and a new support that I remove to exercise and bathe.

The prognosis is by July 4th I will have regained full use.

First Mowing

Tim, my mower guy, came to clean up the mess from the plowing - gravel from the driveway in the lawn and all the leaves.  He gave the lawn the first mow too.

Nice to see such green grass.

Anticipation

A walk around my yard helps me anticipate what will be coming soon.

Siberian iris.

White iris from Vicki Lane

Peony, more iris, bleeding heart

Even more iris

Blooms coming soon but I've forgotten what this is.

Tulips in front that daughter planted the fall we bought the house.

Hosta

I need to do some weeding soon since I contracted with my mower guy to do the mulching this year.

A Wednesday Walk

We gathered at a local restaurant parking lot and walked out and back on primarily a gravel road for 5 miles round trip.  I had walked a portion of this in December on a very frigid day. It was a nice walk, though a bit chilly and at one point we felt some sleet hit us.

Here are the few photos I captured.

Ida and Noel with Denali, the dog are the usual pacesetters.

Here are  L to R: Noel, Sydell, Ida, Helen and Jeanne pausing at the rock which is the turn around point.

Pam and Rachel busy in conversation didn't hear me ask them to get in the photo.  There were three other walkers besides me, but they turned back at the half way there point I believe.  They were long gone when we returned to the cars.

The grass is the greenest thing right now but there is faint color in the trees, too.

I like the blue of this barn and falling down stone wall in front.  The farm looked vacant.

Next Wednesday I get my cast off and start therapy.  I see progress already. I'm able to use my fingers better for typing, though not my thumb. Anything over 1 lb is difficult to hold.

A Delivery

Look what came on Tuesday at dinner time?

Our first of three cords of wood for the woodstove.

Dan is out there stacking it in the barn as I write this morning.

I'll have to help some by picking up the broken bits for kindling, but first I'm headed on a walk with the Wednesday group.  Since I can't drive yet a friend is picking me up at 9:10.

I was wrong

The amaryllis I've posted about has proved me wrong.

It has 5 flowers on this last bloom stalk, not four.

And first daffodils.

Four More Blooms

The gift that keeps on giving.

One open and three more to come.

And Wednesday I opted for a black cast.

This one stays on until the 26th.

Some Good Laughs

Tomorrow I return to orthopedics to have this purple cast removed, stitches pulled out and a new cast applied.  Have to decide what color to select.

I know there's healing going on and I'll enjoy having my thumb return to normalcy after the OT but frustrating still to be one handed.  Am able to key board better with right fingers in the mix now.
