On our trip to visit family in Buffalo last weekend, we drove to Letchworth State Park on Saturday. This is a long skinny park (17 miles long) in northwestern NY State. It follows the Genesee River which flows north to Lake Ontario. The park preserves the gorge created by the river. It's renowned as the Grand Canyon of the East according to the state park site (link here).
[Funny thing is that there's a canyon near Wellsboro, PA that also calls itself the Grand Canyon of the East. We visited there in the summer of 2015 and I wrote this blog post about the park.]
Our first view of the canyon and river was at a dam. We thought the river was flowing left to right because the water was only visible on the left,
...I'm glad that you stopped to enjoy the "Crown Jewel" of this area!
ReplyDeleteWe may have been to Letchworth quite a long time ago when my parents lived near Niagara and we went to NYS for a few days. We went to some canyon-like park.
ReplyDeleteThere wasn’t a lot of spring greenery in the area yet, from your photos, Marcia, but looks like a good hiking spot.
ReplyDeleteThe waterfalls are gorgeous! WOW! We went to the Grand Canyon of the East a few years ago. I'll have to ask hubby which state it was in! lol Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteHubby said we went to the one in PA! It was amazing...I DO remember that!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see, and ponder the dam which isn't holding back anything apparently. Another "Grand Canyon of the East" is near Lumpkin GA, called Providence Canyon. It's the only one of these 3 I've visited...so far!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very impressive and good for walking.
ReplyDeleteCertainly worth a visit! Thanks for taking us along!
ReplyDeleteKudos to you for moving somewhere new and trying to learn about it in the process.
ReplyDeletenice view and good for walking....
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful waterfall and canyon!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I used to live in New York City and in my 60th year, eight years ago, we moved west to Colorado to be closer to our children and grandchildren who settled here. We have enjoyed our new state and learning new things. It's invigorating to live somewhere new!
Quite impressive! I like the views especially the waterfalls.
ReplyDeleteLove the views and those stone tables. It’s going to be beautiful when the leaves come out. You’ll have to stop back.
