So when we were in Barcelona we learned that sorting your trash is important. Our resource person, Edlira, told us she has 6 trash cans in her kitchen: paper, glass, plastic, compost, trash, and one other which now escapes me.
There are these huge trash cans on the street to put everything in. The lid opens on the one below which I think was compost by stepping on the lever at the bottom.
Across the street were 5 other bins. Every street has these. We'd hear the different trucks come to collect from them, too.
Recycling is taken more seriously in Spain than here in Maryland. We did our best to follow their example and recycle while we were there.
...and here it's not such a big thing!
ReplyDeletewe have 2 bins, one for rubbish, one for recycling. The recycling one is sorted after collection. I like Spain's idea.

That is wonderful and everyone town and village in the whole should be doing this otherwise we will not have a whole for our grandchildren!!
ReplyDeleteWe recycle here, but we're not nearly that advanced and sophisticated.
ReplyDeleteThat is so wonderful, and encouraging that some countries are taking recycling seriously. Our small town recycles very little — cardboard boxes, glass bottles, tin cans, and plastic milk jugs. Everything else goes to the landfill.
ReplyDeleteCynthia, your comment reminded the 6th bin would be for metal. How could I forget that?
ReplyDeleteDenmark was also much better at recycling.
ReplyDeleteNice. On our recent trip in Europe, each place we stayed seemed to have a different system!
ReplyDeleteIt's an important idea - but a bit of consistency would not go amiss!
Cheers - Stewart M (finally back in) Melbourne
I remember those. I think it's really wonderful. We all need to be conscious of conserving our resources and reducing our waste.
