We arrived in Cologne mid day. An overcast day as can be seen by these skies.
The cathedral dominates the cityscape.
We could watch the docking from the front of the ship.
Then looking out our window from our cabin this was the view with the cathedral spires visible.
And here is our ship captured from across the Rhine on the walking tour I took.
Much of the skyline of Cologne is post WWII. Cologne was heavily bombed. These photos were posted of what the city looked like.
The cathedral though damaged was not destroyed because most of the windows were removed and stored below ground.
Everything that looks old was rebuilt to look that way as I learned when I questioned the dates on these buildings.

ReplyDeleteThose last buildings somehow look similar to what we saw of a line of buildings in Copenhagen near the train and boat station. They look so lovely with differentially bright colors.

Those houses look delightful and just fill you with joy looking at them. I am glad that the Cathedral was saved from total devastation during WW2 bombing.

ReplyDeleteThe brightly-painted houses made me think of Amsterdam...not so much the colours as their height: some as high as five storeys!
