A Presidents' Day snow fall here today. A good day for it since lots of folks have the day off. We are in no hurry to clear our driveway since the forecast is for it to change to ice as it comes to an end tonight.
The birds are thankful I filled the feeders on Saturday.
It's interesting to note that the usual ground feeders like the junco above left and the sparrow below are going to the feeders today. I haven't seen that before.
The mounting dove knows it just too big to do it. As birds go I think these are on the not so bright side. All the other birds had flown when some alarm was called but this one stayed under the feeder. No wonder they are more likely to be hawk food.

Wild Bird Wednesday
I love all your birds - wish we had cardinals here in the Pacific Northwest - they are so beautiful. We should have snow, like you, but it is pushing 60 degrees here today - not normal but so nice! Thanks for sharing your bird pictures - fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the birds are delighted that you filled the feeders. You have a wonderful colourful range of birds to admire from your window.
ReplyDeleteIt’s really nice a way to spend a holiday, relaxing yourself immersed in the surrounding nature. The red birds, the colorful feeders are eye-catching in the snow. Here in Nara, Japan, it rarely snows even when we are chilled to the bone.

Great photos of the birds visiting the bird feeder! The same storm was affecting me yesterday, too (in Connecticut). And I laughed at your comment about the Morning Dove. I agree that they don't seem to be the brightest of the bird species. I get a whole group that feeds under my bird feeder, but they are actually relatively skittish.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing your birdies... Cardinals are the prettiest ones in winter since that color stands out so much... I usually see JUNCOS in winter here --but this year our winter hasn't been very severe overall so I guess we won't see them...
ReplyDeleteWe had nothing but rain rain rain yesterday... I was so glad it wasn't ICE this year (like we had last year)... BUT--I told my hubby that if the temps had have been lower, we would have gotten LOTS of snow yesterday... I've never seen so much continuous rain for hours and hours... Crazy winter.
Hugs,
Betsy
P.S. How is your deer situation?
Lovely series, I always admire your Cardinals, such wonderful colordots in the wintry world... (here in Germany we haven't Cardinals)
ReplyDeleteHave a good and warmer time soon
This looks like it could easily be my yard as well. Lovely Cardinals and that green feeder is really a neat one~
ReplyDeleteSome lovely birds in the snow. The Cardinal looks great.
ReplyDeletePretty snow scenes!
ReplyDeleteGreat bird photos!
Great visitors in that pretty snow! I've gotten a bit behind, and need to visit some of my friends that I've been neglecting a bit (including you!) and I hope you will also think about doing another book post. I am just sick right now and we have company coming (hopefully I will feel better by then!) and plan to "take a break." But I'll be back soon!
