This second treasure is also related to my mother. Mom took up painting upon her retirement and became quite prolific. In 1992 I asked her to paint a picture for me in the primitive style. Now I didn't remember that it was that year, but luckily she dated her painting.
This is the painting she gave me that I treasure.
It's not true primitive style because there is some perspective to it. My husband teases that its a giant there above in the barn because he's the same size as the woman on the porch. I don't care because its such a wonderful pastoral scene to me.

Mom painted up until she died in 2013. Her eyesight gave her trouble so her detail was not as fine towards the end, but she still had her sense of colors. In fact she was adding color to a frame of a miniature she'd painted the week she died.

What a treasure Marcia and I'm sure that your Mom was a treasure too! I tried painting years ago, but I was never pleased with the results. Now I try to make my photos look like paintings. Thanks for sharing your treasure this week and I look forward to many more of your life's treasures.

ReplyDeleteThat painting is indeed a very special treasure. She was a Grandma Moses of sorts. I love it when old women take up new things and are so good at it. Just imagine how it would have been if they had started earlier. Your Mom was really good and I am so happy you posted this picture she did. A lovely picture, a lovely lady.

ReplyDeleteMy Mom gave me her love for flowers and for genealogy. I inherited lots of family pictures --which I treasure. AND--she had done a great job on our Family History --so it was fun taking over for her...
