Icing

We are in the grip of an ice storm.  It's treacherous out there and will be until it warms up some.  I stepped out the back to take these photos and almost slipped on the deck which I thought was only wet, but was iced.  I could hear the sound of branches cracking in the woods.  Limbs that have leaves/needles like the holly, beech and pine are hanging low.

It's beautiful so long as I'm nice and warm inside.

As I was preparing this post this deer came to the pond garden outside my study window.  It paws the leaves away looking for shoots of the liriope underneath.  It's hungry but I won't feed them as some of my friends in this community do.  They find things to eat.  Notice the cedar tree on the left below that has been munched on.

  1. HI Marcia Boy that is COLD however you managed to get some great shots of the iciccles in the leaves adn branches. the Deer is cute, I have to say I probably would throw him out a little food and give them a helping hand during this very cold spell.

  2. Beautiful pictures. That doe is very young and very pregnant and hope she'll be ok for next month (they usually bring fawns in March in our area). Our trees are also iced over but we also have 1.5 feet of snow on the ground.

  3. Be safe!! All that ice sure makes for some dazzling photos. We rarely get ice storms, since we're rarely hovering around freezing temp.. it's too cold for us to get rain that turns to ice. Just the same old snow.. and more snow.. and more snow. :)

  4. Ahhh--I always feel sorry for wildlife in winter... Poor little thing... (Poor Cedar tree too).... ha

Ice is pretty to photograph but terrible to the places where it happens. Hope you didn't lose electricity or lots of tree limbs.

Congrats on the new grand baby.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  5. Great pictures and what a splendid visitor! Congratulations on the new family member!

We have possums visit our garden all year round - but they are stealing the tomatoes at present - which is not good!!

I think the bike lock has been on the bench for at least 2 or 3 years!
