I didn't realize that when I sprinkled the seed on the snow for ground feeding birds that I'd also be feeding the deer.
Here she is outside Dan's study window oblivious to him sitting there.
Somehow she sees me taking her picture from the great room.
She's had enough so she heads off.
I remember a time when it was unusual to see deer. Even when we'd vacation in West Virginia when the daughters were young it was a special event to happen upon the deer feeding in the fields at dusk. Now they're out and about at all times and are everywhere.

Snow in these photos is disappearing fast as our temps are at 50º and climbing.
Beautiful photos! And a really great looking deer. Do you think it might be a young buck rather than a doe? It appears to have some little nubbin spots where the antlers could be coming in. I haven't really seen whitetail deer this close - so maybe they all look like that.
ReplyDeleteYou may be right but I thought the bucks would still have their antlers at this time of year. Maybe not.
DeleteSo much snow!!! It's gorgeous! The deer must really appreciate any food they can find right now. I'm amazed how close they come to the house. They can really be quite courageous. I wonder if hunting has become a sport that is not as popular as in the past, and if that is why we are seeing so many more deer. I think we see more here, too - and I don't think we have the hunters around like we have had in the past.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. I always worry about the critters this time of year. Beautiful snow… Wish we'd get some here!!!! Sigh! ha
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comment about my 101 yr. old father-in-law dying. He lived an amazing life--and never once was in the hospital. That's an inspiration.
Merry Christmas.
Hugs,
Betsy
She is beautiful...your photos of her are just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI have seed in feeders as well as some in a birdbath and some scattered on the ground. What I discovered is that for some weird reason my DOGS like the seed and were eating some. No clue if that is common or not...and it is not as if they were starving or anything. Strange :)
Wow....'rein'deer just in time for the holidays!!!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet these photos are. Lovely creatures and exceptional photo shares.
she's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteone of my favorite subjects to photograph, i would have wet my pants to be this close!!
ReplyDeleteit's so hard for them to find food when it snows, i am not surprised he came in so close!!
a wonderful entry and beautiful images for saturday critters!!
What a pretty doe! I am sure the deer appreciate the birdseed too with all the snow on the ground. Great shots! Thanks for linking up to Saturday's Critters! Enjoy your weekend!
