My Advent Calendar

 December 17th

Not an ornament or decoration around the house but a milestone.

How did this little girl go from this ....

... to this?

75 is a big birthday and I'm open to advice from those of you who have passed this mark on how you're coping with being more than 3/4 of a century old.

  1. Happy Birthday Marcia!!! You were a sweet little girl and still a sweet lady. We are both now the same age. Welcome to being 3/4 of a century old. I had to laugh when I read that. I have no real sage advice, but I will try to follow my own, take each day as it comes. Thank you also for visiting my blog and wishing us a Happy 50th Anniversary. It is so nice that we are both celebrating. Wishing you much happiness today and always.

  2. 75 seems a long time ago. I will be 85 in March. My advice, for what it is worth, is to try to fill each day with something you like, something of interest, rather than just letting the time pass away. I do admit, every now and then, I do give into a completely do-nothing day where I accomplish nothing, but that is usually after a particularly hectic few days and my old body just needs to catch up and recharge. Life is too short to waste and if you want friends and family to appreciate you, you need to experience enough things in your daily life to have stuff to talk about.

    1. Ana, your advice is spot on. I'll try to remember to do that.

  3. At this time of life, I appreciate the time that I have been granted with still a relatively healthy mind and body.

  5. A big congratulations and no good advice. You need to just follow your own heart. That's where you've been guided through many good decisions for 75 years that brought you to today. Actually I thought it was a pretty big milestone too. I wonder if anyone gave me some good advice...

  6. A milestone and just a number, depending on one's point of view. I once thought I was getting a handle on things but now, at 82, I 've decided I don't need a handle. Just relax and enjoy and take things as they come. You are not in control of the wave but you can ride it.

  7. I am 80 so think of 75 as relatively young. I read the best memoir which helped me adjust to aging more happily. The book is "Essays at 80" by Donald Hall. He is a past Poet Laureate of the USA, lives alone in his 80s in a farmhouse. It really lifted my spirits, I recommend it.
