A Day Away

Tuesday Dan and I took a day away from the usual daily stuff.  Can't call it the daily grind because retirement is far from that.

We went east across the Chesapeake Bay to Wye Island, a natural resource management area, to see three things.

#1
An old holly tree

#2
An oak-hickory forest that's been standing since the American Revolution

#3
A tunnel of Osage trees.

It was a very nice day trip!

We sometimes take trees for granted, but when we take time to look and learn, trees are amazing!
Thanks for your comment on my blog. As for your question about the big tractor rig - it is used to plant soybeans. It drills a hole, drops the seed in, and covers it all in one smooth operation. Soybean rows are much closer together than many other crops. Planted now soybeans will be ready to harvest late in the Autumn. Our Winters in north Mississippi are mild compared to other parts of the country
Have a wonderful weekend!

...the oaks have faired a lot better than the holly. Those are some mighty big Osage, it's interesting that Indians make their bows out of the wood.

a trip I would've loved to taken as well! Thank you for sharing! There is something about being out in nature like that that is so soul-cleansing and reinvigorating!
