Welcome reader to my blog - a mixture of this and that. Now that we are living in a retirement community in downtown Columbia, MD my personal gardening activities are somewhat curtailed. I still enjoy visiting gardens, reading, watching wildlife on my walks, traveling, and occasional food commentary. Please leave a comment if you feel inspired to do so. I read every one of them.

Suppertime in My Backyard

I filled the green bird feeder hanging in the background and then scattered what was remaining of the sunflower seeds in the can on the snow for the ground feeding birds.  The cardinals were enjoying it last time I looked out.

But now this visitor is getting a belly full.

She's right outside my windows so she's sure to have seen me in there getting my supper ready.

She didn't run until I opened the door.

So as I'm writing this another deer has sauntered up to take her turn at the seeds.  Never ending battle with these deer!

I had six deer in my back yard last week eating away on my landscaping. Tom The Backroads Traveller

We have a love-hate relationship with our deer too.. But we use Liquid Fence to keep them away from our flowers in spring/summer/fall.. SO---we are pretty lucky keeping them away from the yard.... My bird feeders are on the deck and the only critters we struggle with there are the squirrels and chipmunks... BUT--even that hasn't been too bad this winter so far. The birds are getting it ALL. ha

Hugs,
Betsy

Those deer are really good-looking animals; they look so harmless. However, I know they can cause a lot of destruction in a small domestic garden, so lots of people see them as enemies.
