View From My Window

The predominant color out my study window is brown, but I so wish it were green.  I know that winter is a necessary stage, a resting period for plant life, but I'm ready for it to be over soon.  Winter brown or spring green?  No question which is preferred.

Now I would like a good freezing, maybe even some snow to fall before this stage comes to its conclusion.

There is one thing I need to do that is made easier by a frozen pond.  A good cold snap for several days would freeze the pond and let me walk out there to cut the cattails and get the spent ones out of the way.

I've long since given up on trying to remove the cattails from the pond.  That's an impossible task and I didn't even plant them there.  They came on their own with the frogs I guess.

I no longer regret that they are there.  In fact I so look forward to the new green shoots this coming spring.

Hi Marcia, I'm one of the odd-balls who LOVES winter. I love the browns and dreariness. Crazy, I know!!!! BUT--that makes Spring even that nicer!!!!!

We have had some spring-like weather here recently --but winter is back today. It's foggy, drizzly and in the 30's right now... Fun fun..

Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Marcia, I'm another "nut" who thrives in Winter environments (mind you, I do acknowledge that Winter in the southern hemisphere could hardly be called that by those living in the northern hemisphere!). However, that said, I too appreciate the moderate temperatures that come with Spring and Autumn together with the garden revelations accompanying those seasons. Your Dianthus (?) are striking.

I need the winter so I can enjoy the Spring.

Winter not only lets the plants rest and gets them ready for rejuvenation, it does the same for us. A nice break to rest up for the coming work! :-)

Beautiful pictures!!

Oh, I'm ready for spring, too! I am glad to live where our winters are mild, but I'd rather just have an extended autumn! ;) I know some plants need the cold, though - there are some that I can't grow here because of that - but still, I miss being out in the garden all day. There's just nothing like working on a warm spring day when things are just beginning to bloom and come out of hiding.
