Harvest?

It has been a rough 10 days.  My mom was hospitalized on the 16th with heart failure - first time - at age 93.  She's okay, but there were only three of the 6 of us available to stay with her, and my schedule was the most flexible up until discharge day when I had to prepare for my outpatient surgery that had been on the calendar for months.  That happened last Thursday.  Now comes recovery - slower than I ever anticipated and hard not to get out to the garden to do stuff which I've learned I can't without paying for it.  Today I've had a morning and an afternoon nap; that's shows what stamina I have and I haven't done much of anything.

Vegetable gardening is out though tonight Sarah is to plant the eggplants I picked up last Wednesday as an impulse purchase at Southern States. I'll supervise the planting.

I've walked through the vegetable beds a couple of times and did manage to pull some carrots which we enjoyed steamed with store bought broccoli.

Sarah picked blueberries sporadically but only handfuls and from one bush only.  The other 5 are different and not ripening as fast.

She also picked this lovely jalapeno pepper and is deciding what to make with it.

Before surgery I pulled out all the garlic (no photo) and its curing in the garage.

See other harvest at Daphne's Dandelions.

There are some new faces in the flower gardens among the daylilies.  At least I can enjoy looking at them and the other flowers though I can't do the tasks that need doing to keep the gardens looking their best.  I'll get back to that before I know it.

Mom is home now and my oldest sister has taken a turn helping out. She couldn't for the hospital stay because her first grandson was born the week before.

Sarah just planted the eggplants for me which was good. I hope they do well for an impulse buy.

Great little harvest. I hope your mom gets better and I hope you do as well. I still say you have one of the most beautiful homes and gardens out of all the blogs I read. It's just really nice!

Your garden looks lovely! I like to cook 'semi-homemade,' I try to use at least one thing from the garden for every meal, helps to prevent waste.

Oh your garden is lovely! I love the rock walls and the daylillies; they aren't always happy here in the desert. I hope you take good care of yourself and get well soon~

It sounds like you and my mom are having a somewhat similar summer. My mom had to go home to Pittsburgh early because my other grandma had possibly had a stroke. This meant leaving her summer garden in the Berkshires only partially tended--a hard choice but the right one nonetheless. Feel better soon!

Elena, Looks like you double posted your comments so I deleted the second one. Sorry to hear about your other grandmother's troubles. Didn't mean to alarm you about Grandma. Not a heart attack and heart failure is something that people can live with so long as they watch their sodium intake to keep the blood pressure down. Look forward to seeing you and meeting E. for the first time in July.

I am just now getting caught up on my blog reading, and I am so sorry to hear about your mother. My best wishes for her continued recovery. Your garden is just gorgeous! Your flowers look so pretty - beautiful colors together! And your vegetables look very nice, too. It's getting HOT here, and everything is wilting (including the gardener!).
